Art starts with a mark.

Beach Wave Pattern is my first intentional step toward creating a visual language—a minimal, universal design that identifies my work and philosophy. It’s a foundational element I can build from. Think of it like a seed: simple in appearance, but holding potential to grow into something layered.

The pattern draws inspiration from the sine wave—its elegant up-and-down motion, its rhythm, its harmony. There's something innately pleasing about its form. It mirrors the natural flow of life and emotion: rising, falling, returning. It’s mathematical, yet soft. Predictable, but never static.

Looking at waves in the ocean—and the way they stack and overlap—is visually calming. There’s a natural order in their repetition, but no two waves are exactly the same. That’s what I love about this pattern: every stroke can be filled differently, making each application unique—like every ripple on the surface of water, shaped by its own moment.

Here is a working painting, currently untitled, showing how the wave forms look when stacked. It becomes a rhythm—a texture that feels both organic and intentional.

This entire approach falls under a core category in art: Mark Making. No matter how simple the form, every artist brings something personal to the marks they make. We could all be asked to draw the same subject, but the way we do it—how we press, curve, repeat, or pause—would reveal something individual. It’s like a fingerprint. Unique to each of us.
