Shot in stark black and white, this image captures a smooth edged Fleetwood suspended with one wheel up "3-wheeling." A frozen moment of mechanical celebration and cultural pride. Framed to commemorate the legacy of lowriders and the hydraulic artistry.
Lowrider culture emerged in post-WWII Los Angeles, especially within Chicano communities, where cars became a canvas for personal and cultural expression. By the 1950s and ’60s, lowriders with lowered suspensions were making bold statements — but police crackdowns and road laws spurred innovation.
Enter hydraulics: originally aircraft surplus parts repurposed to lift and lower vehicles on command. This tech allowed to ride low but able lift to legal height at the flip of a switch. Over the decades, hydraulics evolved into a competitive art form — where control, creativity, and engineering skill shine.
